Exam Results

This year  in 2010 90% of pupils achieved at least 5 A*- C grades at GCSE.  This means we have improved GCSE results for 6 years in a row.   Students have achieved 66% 5A* - C including English and Maths (the DfE’s only recognised measure for League Tables). Our school very significantly out performs National Standards.

100% of our gifted and talented cohort (20 pupils, an equal number of girls and boys) achieved 8 or more A or A* grades with many achieving 10 or more.  These were all in academic GCSE subjects.

25% of all pupils achieved an A or an A* in Mathematics.  100% of pupils taking Biology, Physics and Chemistry got at least a B grade.  Outstanding A* – C subject results include100% in Art, 96% in Statistics, 94% in Drama, 90% in ICT Core and 89% in History and Music. The Creative and Media Diploma had exceptional results for a new subject nationally. 98% of all young people at the school got 5A*- G including English and Maths.

This is a remarkable achievement for our inclusive school.  The wide range of additional support and intervention that we have offered pupils in all examination years has had a dramatic impact on individual pupil’s attainment at all levels of ability.

Our 6th form students achieved very well. The overall results have been fantastic. 40% of pupils gained at least one A grade with 12% of students achieving at least 3 A* or A grades. At A*, 20% of our students were successful at this new and most challenging of standards. Over 97% of all grades were above the pass mark. These marks are expected to be even higher after several appeals are held.

Subjects recorded truly exceptional results. 100% of students studying Physics achieved A* or A grades, in Mathematics it was 67% with 33% being A* grades. BTEC Personal and Business Finance had 70% of pupils with A* and A grades and in Photography it was 60%.

We believe the fantastic quality of our teaching staff, our robust and leading edge monitoring systems have all contributed to the success of our pupils. We also offer a range of additional opportunities to inspire and assist its pupils. These include a wide range of extra curricular activities – including gifted and talented sessions at top universities, mentoring with leading city businesses and a wide range of after school support clubs and revision weeks during school holidays.
Students in the 6th form have continued to have success gaining places at Russell Group Universities to study subjects including maths, chemistry and history.  97% of this year’s cohort are going to the university, art or music college of their choice.   This year 15% of our Year 13s are applying to Oxford, Cambridge or a medical school.
